Welcome to Eco Lodge Refugio Marnes!

What to do in the vicinity of Refugio Marnes?

Relaxing near the poolRefugio Marnes is, above all, a place to rest; getting away from those persistent background noises in our lives. Here, you can read a book, soak the sun, have a swim or fall asleep under the shade of a tree, simply enjoying the sounds of nature.

Do you love walking or is cycling your thing

Cycling near PinosThe immediate surroundings of Refugio Marnes are an excellent place to have a long stroll or mountain hike. Sierra de Bernia is famous in the cycling world, professionals have their spring training camps on the Costa Blanca, and mountain bikers can go directly from the property for a spin along the winding mountain roads.

Or rather horsebackriding or climbing

Video Climbing BerniaIn Jalon, Benissa and Calpe there are opportunities for horse riding. Our region is also known and famous amongst climbers, where different degrees of difficulty are to be found in the Sierra de Bernia area. The nearest climbs are accessible by car and are just a few minutes away from Refugio Marnes.

The Costa Blanca: parapenting, hanggliding and of course sailing and diving

Para glidingYou are approximately 30 minutes by car from the coast, so for beach and aquatic activities you have many options. Around Christmas time, 'beach weather' is not unusual here and a golden tan can be gently created under the december sun. The coast can become crowded in mid-summer, but unspoiled beaches and 'Calas' that make you forget you are in a tourist area, are easily found.

We have a large amount of tourist information waiting for you in our accommodation.

walking

Map of Marina AltaOf course the Costa Blanca is very well known for its beaches and party-life, especially cities like Benidorm, Calpe and Alicante. Much less known is that the backcountry of the Costa Blanca is a paradise for hikers, climbers and mountainbiking. One of the best places in this area is the Marina Alta, where Refugio Marnes is located. Several mountain ranges cross the area, the highest reaching 4500 ft. Combine this with one of the finest climates in Europe, many trails and a couple of good walking-clubs and guides. That's why we call Refugio Marnes "your rural holiday haven".

Walking, hiking and trekking.

video Marina AltaYou can start your walk right out of our accommodation, you can even hike all day without leaving the 50 acre estate. Some of our guests are still exploring our valley after several visits. If you need more of a challenge: the Sierra de Bernia is right at your doorstep. Details for the some of the trails are available at our accommodation. Some trails are well marked and easy to follow. To really enjoy the more challenging trails, it's best to either let us provide you with a local guide, or to join in on one of the organised walking-tours.

Thrill-seeker or naturalist.

Map of Marina AltaDue to it's fine micro-climate (with average temperatures ranging from 25ºC in summer to 18ºC in winter and an average of 320 sunny days per year) you will be enchanted by the colors and scents of the beautiful flowers and fruits of Marina Alta. Orchids, rosemary, wild tulips, broom, almonds, olives, oranges and grapes, to name a few. Over 80 species of birds, wild boar, foxes and, somewhat less exotic, sheep, goat and ass in our own valley, share this pleasure with you.

Whether you like thrills better than flowers and birds, or the other way round, you will have a great time!

climbing haven

Panorama
Rock climbing at the Costa Blanca is varied and extensive. Moreover the quality of the routes is great. Well-bolted slabs, tufa-pulling, trad climbs and sea cliffs, all solid limestone. It is a good place for a climbing holiday, with plenty moderate routes and even starter grades at most crags. Take care though, because a well-used easy route on limestone can mean slippery grips, so it may pay off to climb either a less used one or try a more moderate route! In winter, when the temperature during a sunny day usually averages 20°C, conditions are ideal. The few bad weather days are easily spend in one of the picturesque villages in the region, or just relaxing at our Refugio of course.

Climbing near Pinos and Bernia

Terrain map of Marina AltaRefugio Marnes is a 10 minute drive from the Pinos and the Sierra de Bernia crags. These alone have more than 30 routes. You can download the topos (right click, save as, PDF):

- Topo Bernia (thanks to Ryan Glass)

The Peñón de Ifach and the sea cliffs of Toix are both a 30 minutes drive from Refugio Marnes.
