Hoopoe (Upupa epops) a beautiful observation during birding Costa blanca
Hoopoe (size 10 –11 inches) is a characteristic orange brownish bird with black/white banding on the wings and with a long, curved beak with which it searches for invertebrates. When excited this bird raises it’s crested feathers. In Spanish they are called ‘abubilla’ but it’s also known as ‘Come Mierda’ (poop eater, freely translated) because it builds its nests with the droppings of other animals. Hoopoes can be found throughout the year in the southern part of Spain, so they are present in the Refugio Marnes area and Birding Costa Blanca
As Spain is such vast country, there is a huge variety of birds to see.
